Dane Dems

Calling for nominations to the Dane Dems Board!

Are you or someone you know passionate about local democratic (little d) and Democratic (big D) politics? Are you or is that person a resident of Dane County? Have you or they been a member of Dane Dems since September 10, 2025 or longer?

If the answer to all three of these questions is yes, you or they are eligible to run for a seat on the Dane Dems Executive Board!

Nominations for the Executive Board will take place at our membership meeting on November 12th, 2025.  You must be nominated at that meeting, confirmed to have an eligible membership on record, and indicate your willingness to serve in the office to participate in the election at the December 10th meeting. You may confirm your willingness to serve in the office in advance of the meeting by emailing Michael Bell, our Vice-Chair for Nominations and Elections, at [email protected].  Unsure if your membership was active on or before September 10?  You can verify that with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin by emailing [email protected].

You see, we’re Democrats, and therefore we believe in democratic elections – elections that are open, fair, and abide by our constitution. (You can find the Dane Dems constitution and bylaws HERE.)  You’ll find detailed descriptions of the duties of the positions in our governing documents, but here is a quick list of the positions:

– County Chair

– 6 Vice Chairs, including:

Vice-Chair of Communications

Vice-Chair of Membership

Vice-Chair of Campaigns

Vice-Chair of Development

Vice-Chair of Nominations and Elections

Vice-Chair of Volunteers

– Treasurer

– Secretary

– Assembly District Reps (the “AD reps”), one for each assembly district in the county: the 42nd, 46th, 47th, 48th,  50th, 51st, 76th, 77th, 78th, 79th, 80th, and 81st (12 in all)

Note that, just like the other seats, the Assembly District Reps have to be nominated at the November nomination meeting. However, they are elected at the December meeting by caucus of only folks from their districts. The other board seats are elected by the general membership in attendance, either in person or virtually, at the December meeting. To vote in the elections, you must have been a member of the Dane Dems for at least 48 hours before the election. New officers take up their positions on January 1st of 2026.
