Democratic Party of Dane County Statement On The Police Shooting of Jacob Blake

For Immediate Release

“Once again, we are faced with images of a horrific incident that is inexplicable and another example of excessive use of force against an unarmed Black man in front of his children. Jacob Blake is a friend, father, and son. We wish for full recovery for Jacob, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Yet again, the great state of Wisconsin displays its ugly side to the world to see. Make no mistake that Wisconsin is known as one of the worst states for Black people, one that incarcerates Black men at one of the highest rates in the nation, and a state with a rooted history of police brutality on Black lives.

We stand with the victims of police violence. It is time we put actions to words. Today we work to break the violent cycle, we breakdown the persistent white supremacy structure, and we break the predictable consequences of a racist and prejudiced system and culture. We must use this moment towards justice and a just society. Let’s act by calling upon all our elected officials to roll up their sleeves, take and support bold actions to redefine our history. This is the moment. This is our moment.”
